.06 VOLCANIC

“We want you to be our mole.” I said, looking at Mel, letting what I said sink in.

She remained silent, her face showing no emotion, but her eyes told a different story. Her mouth was slightly open as she tried to process what I just said. I decided to continue my explanation.

She remained silent, her face showing no emotion, but her eyes told a different story. Her mouth was slightly open as she tried to process what I just said. I decided to continue my explanation.

Mel looked at me and then at Changmin. She folded her arms across her chest once more and pursed her lips.

“And if I agree, I have to live with him?” Mel said looking at Changmin.
“In separate rooms of course.” I said, nodding.
“Aside from the compensation that I will be receiving, will all the charges against me be dropped?” she asked.
“If our plan goes through to the end,” I answered, pausing again. “I will arrange for it.”

“Alright.” She said after several minutes of silence. “I’ll go along with what you guys are planning to do.”
“Then we have a deal, Mel.” I said standing up and walking towards the door.

I pause when my hand touched the doorknob. I turned to look at Mel.

“Oh, and the next time you think of getting our attention, all you have to do is push a button.” I said gesturing to a small black box on the table. “You don’t have to throw a tantrum.”

I smirked as she glared at me, her hands balling themselves into fists.

“I’ll remember that next time.” Mel replied stiffly.
“Then we part ways here.” I said holding the door open. “Someone will be along to escort you to your new home. You will also be briefed on what you will do and given everything that you will need to help us infiltrate the underground.” I added, inclining my head before Changmin and I went out the door.

***

“Are you out of your mind!?” Changmin yelled once we were inside our office. “Why do I have to live with her?”
“Revenge. This is better than getting your ass kicked in the dojo, right?” I answered, remembering what he had said earlier during the mission. “Besides, I think she’s planning something. Who would agree to our terms in that short amount of time?”
“And you’re asking me to play house with a notorious drug lady?” Changmin asked sarcastically.
“In a manner of speaking,” I paused, smiling at him. “Yes, I do.”

***

“Great work, both of you.” I said, looking at Jaejoong and Changmin.

All three of us were inside the briefing room, reviewing their recent mission. We had just finished discussing how Jaejoong had convinced Mel to agree to our plans. I was especially amused by Jaejoong’s plan of having Changmin live with Mel so that we could keep a closer eye on her.

“I like your idea of having Changmin live with Mel, Jaejoong.” I chuckled, in spite of myself. “It’s a good way to train him for future field work.” I added.
“Now,” I began. “For successfully completing your mission, both of you have earned yourselves two work-free days.” I smiled at them both, particularly looking at Jaejoong, giving him the tiniest of nods.
“Where’re you going for two days Minnie?” Jaejoong asked. “Wanna go with me somewhere? We can try some male bonding time.” he added joking.
“The hell not!” Changmin shot back. “I’d rather spend my time with my girlfriend, thank you very much.” He added standing up.

As I looked at Jaejoong chuckling at Changmin’s reaction, he put his hands together and rested his chin on them. A signal from him acknowledging the nod I gave him just seconds before.

“Then I’ll take my leave.” I said, walking to the door. “See you after two days.” I added and went back to my office.

Almost ten minutes had passed when there was a light knock on my door and Jaejoong came in. I nodded and gestured for him to take a seat.

“I have something for you to do, Jaejoong.” I said after he sat down. “This involves your old friend Yunho.”
“Yunho?” Jaejoong asked, curious. “How is he involved?”
“I know he’s a friend of yours. He’s also one of the top policemen in the city. He’s currently handling the drug syndicate cases. He’s been investigating the case for over two years now. He might know something about Mel that we don’t. I think he’s found something about the underground drug syndicate but is hiding the information.” I explained. “I need you to find out what that information is.”
“Alright.” Jaejoong answered. “I was planning to call him so that we could catch up on things. I’ll get right on it, Mr. Kim.”
“I’m counting on you, Jaejoong.” I said, putting the pressure on. “The information you obtain will be crucial in our plan to take down the underground drug syndicate.”
“Yes sir.” Jaejoong said as he got up and left.

***

I was at home and I had just come out of the shower. I was in the process of towel-drying my hair. It was just after six in the evening. I grabbed my mobile phone and dialed Yunho’s number.

“Yunho-ah, are you free tonight?” I asked, hopeful.
“Jaejoong-hyung, I was about to call you.” Yunho answered back. His answer made me smile.
“So are you free? Wanna go out for a drink?” I asked again.
“Alright.” Yunho answered. “We might as well have dinner too. Remember the small restaurant on the corner where the old antique store used to be?” he asked.
“I do.” I said. “I’ll meet you there in thirty minutes.”

I slid my mobile phone shut as I ended the call and started to prepare for a night out with Yunho. I found myself carefully choosing what to wear and I was wondering why. I was also puzzled as to why I have this feeling of euphoria during and after my short conversation with Yunho. I smiled at myself. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Yunho. He’s changed so much in the five years that we haven’t been in contact. Has it been that long? I asked myself as I looked at myself in the mirror, straightening my shirt collar. When I was happy with it, I took my house and car keys, mobile phone and went out the door.

***

“Hey, did you wait long?” I asked as I walked up to where Yunho was standing. He was just outside the small restaurant that we used to eat at when we were in military school.
“Nah. Just got here about the same time you drove up.” Yunho replied, smiling casually. “Hungry?” he asked as he jerked his head towards the restaurant.
“Famished.” I said walking to the restaurant’s door. “Let’s eat.”

***

“Wanna crash at home for a while?” Yunho asked an hour later as we came out of the restaurant. “I think I have a few more drinks left in the fridge.”
“Sure.” I said walking towards my car. “But I’ll drive.”

We got into my car; I put the key in the ignition and started the car. We were driving silently for a couple of minutes before I decided to break the silence.

“I heard you’re one of the top policemen in the city.” I said, glancing at him.
“Word travels fast.’ Yunho said chuckling a little. “All that hard work paid off, I guess.”
“You working as a project manager, was that just your cover?” I asked.
“That was my cover at the time, hyung.” Yunho said smiling. “I was undercover tracking down a couple of jewelry smugglers who were doing an exchange in that restaurant where we bumped into each other.”
“So military school did pay off somehow.” I chuckled. “Look where you are right now.”
“All that blood, sweat and tears.” Yunho said slowly shaking his head. “Finally put to good use.”

We were both chuckling as I stopped the car in front of Yunho’s house. We got out and he led the way to the front door. He opened it and beckoned for me to follow him inside.

“Take a seat and I’ll get us our drinks.” Yunho said as he disappeared into the kitchen.

I took my chance at being alone and tried to look around as quickly as I could without missing anything. I noticed that there were just several picture frames scattered around the house. They were all of Yunho and his family when he was younger. I looked at two photos on the counter. One was of Yunho and his father, the other was of him and his younger brother.

I sighed. I’d have to snoop around more if I’m going to find that hidden information about the syndicate. Knowing Yunho, he must be keeping his case files somewhere in his father’s study, if not inside his room or somewhere on his desk at the police station. I thought, frowning a bit. This is going to be trickier than I thought. I can’t ask Changmin for help since I was the only one who was given this assignment. I sighed. The search only took me a couple of minutes to finish, since I won’t be finding what I originally came here to get. I sat myself down on an armchair just in time to see Yunho coming into the living room carrying two ice-cold Heinekens. He handed me one and we both drank in silence for a several seconds.

“So, no other women after you and your ex called it quits?” I asked, quite curious about his love life.
“I’ve been too busy with work anyway. Besides, she still keeps in contact,” he paused. “Once in a while.” Yunho answered nodding glumly.
“I’m just curious, but why do you have only a few family photos here?” I asked.
“I didn’t bother to add any, even after my father died three years ago.” Yunho answered sadly. “He had removed all the photos of my mother right after she died…” he added, his voice trailing off.
“I noticed that only you have photos with you father. Why doesn’t your brother have one with your father?” I asked again.
“My father and brother were never close.” Yunho said then paused to take a swig from his bottle. “Appa said that he looked too much like my mother and he reminds him of her too much. He didn’t want to be reminded of my mother who was never going to come back to life, no matter how much he wished for it.” he explained with a trace of sadness in his voice.

We were both silent for a while as we drank from our bottles. I looked at him, thinking about what he said while trying to think of something to say to him to change the subject at the same time. I sighed and put my empty bottle down on the coffee table. I walked to where he was standing, where he was staring at a photograph of him and his father.

“Stop being sad already.” I said smacking his shoulder lightly.

I smiled at him, trying to get him to cheer up. I put my face in front of his and stared at him pouting. I meant it as a joke, but as I looked into his eyes, my body froze. This… is awkward. I thought, as my heart started to beat faster. I suddenly had an urge to touch his face, to stroke his hair, wondering what it would feel like but I pushed those thoughts away. I wanted to lean away, but I couldn’t to move. My mobile phone was vibrating in my pocket but I paid it no mind. Yunho was staring at me too, his expression unreadable. A few seconds passed as we just looked at each other. I blinked to clear my head and managed to lean away. I cleared my throat and took my mobile phone out of my pocket.

“Excuse me,” I said, showing my phone to Yunho. “Gotta answer this.” I said as I walked towards the window. I saw him nod at me, his face still showing that unreadable expression. I turned my back on him and answered my call.
“Your timing is just spectacular Minnie.” I hissed into the phone. “Why are you calling me, of all people?” I asked. “What took you so long?” Changmin demanded. “Are you on one of your dates again?” he asked suspicion coloring his voice.
“That’s none of you business.” I hissed. “What is this about, Minnie?” I pressed on, I wanted this over with.
“Mel got away.” Changmin answered.
“WHAT!?” I hissed. “How the hell did that happen!?” I demanded, trying to control my voice so that Yunho wouldn’t hear me.
“I was joking, hyung. Get a grip.” Changmin answered. “I was bored and I decided to bother you for a bit.”
“Stop bothering me or I’ll really kick your ass.” I said ending the call. I shook my head and smiled.

I was a little bit grateful to Changmin for interrupting my little episode with Yunho. I wouldn’t have known what to do if something else had happened besides that staring game we just had. I was a bit nervous as I turned away from the windows to face Yunho again. He was sitting on the couch, still with his unfinished drink, his expression somewhat normal again.

***

I found myself staring at Jaejoong’s face after he had smacked my shoulder. He was trying to cheer me up, like he always did when I felt sad or frustrated. I looked at him and found myself looking at him like I’m seeing him for the first time.

His smooth, feminine-like face, his strong jaw line, his soft lips, and eyes that pierced whenever he looked at you. His face hardly changes expressions, except for when he laughs. When he laughs, his expression becomes softer, more carefree.

Stop right there. Wait. What the hell!? What am I thinking!? My thoughts became knotted in such a way that I couldn’t think clearly. Why am I suddenly looking at Jaejoong-hyung like that!? I couldn’t understand. Be logical here, Yunho. I thought, trying not to panic. I looked at him as he leaned away, took his phone from his pocket. He gestured to his phone, saying something about answering his call. I nodded, his words really not registering. I watched him as he walked towards the windows, talking to whoever was on the other end of the line. I looked at my reflection on the beer bottle that was still in my hand. I tilted my head slightly to the side. I couldn’t recognize myself. What the hell is happening to me? I asked myself as I took a seat on the couch. I tried to rearrange my confused thoughts. You just haven’t seen him for a long time, Yunho. Five years is a long time. I thought, trying to reason with myself. Jaejoong has changed a lot since military school. Of course he would look different now. I looked at him again, trying to bury my earlier thoughts of him. I inhaled a breath slowly to calm myself. I nodded to myself. Yes, it’s just me adjusting to how he looks now. I nodded again. I am not going crazy. I am a sane person. I thought to myself as I felt Jaejoong sit down beside me on the couch. I drank from my bottle to avoid looking at him.

“Sorry, a friend of mine from work.” Jaejoong said. “He likes to bother me sometimes when he’s bored.”

I fought myself, trying hard not to let my eyes wander from staring at the bottle in my hands. But my eyes seem to not want to not look at him. Before I could stop myself, I was looking at Jaejoong again, my eyes lingering on his face. He looked at me too, the smile on his lips fading a bit, his cheeks flushing lightly. The silence was deafening again, as I willed myself to break it, to end the awkward feeling. I struggled to think of something to say, looking away from Jaejoong for a bit when he suddenly burst out laughing. Jaejoong laughing. That surprised me. He had the back of his right hand covering his mouth and his head was tilted upwards. Cute. That’s the only word that can describe it. I smiled at him. His sudden laughter became an icebreaker for both of us. I raised an eyebrow at him.

“Are you laughing at me?” I asked, putting my bottle on the table.

Jaejoong was about to answer my question when there was a knock on the door. We both looked at it. Who could that be? I thought. I was not expecting any other visitors. I stood up from the couch and went to answer the door.

***

His face! I thought, still laughing my head off. Yunho was looking at me and then he looked away. He looked like he wanted to say something. His nose was all scrunched up and his eyes were thin slits it almost looked like he had closed them. He looked like he was annoyed. It’s just the funniest thing!

I was about to answer his question when we heard someone at the door. Yunho and I looked at each other. I can see on his face that he wasn’t expecting anyone. He stood up and went to the door.

Yunho didn’t come back alone. A man with soft, wavy shoulder-length hair came with him. When he saw me, he smiled and inclined his head. He had high cheekbones and his eyes twinkled. I couldn’t help but return his smile. When he smiled, it reached his eyes, but there was something in his twinkling eyes that had me wondering.

“Jaejoong-hyung, this is Micky” Yunho said, introducing the man beside him, putting a hand on his shoulder.

Somehow, seeing Yunho putting his hand on Micky disturbed me. I didn’t like it. Still smiling, I stood up and shook hands with Micky. I remained standing, feeling uncomfortable. I didn’t know what to do or what to say. Micky was already on the couch while Yunho was off getting him something to drink.

“So, how long have you two known each other?” I asked, just to break the awkward silence.
“Almost two and a half years, I think.” Micky answered. “He’s a very good hyung.” He added.

I was about to say something else when Yunho came back with Micky’s drink. He handed it to him with a smile and sat beside him on the couch. That uncomfortable feeling I’ve been trying to ignore kept gnawing at me. I felt out of place as I watched them talk about something that I didn’t really listen to. I cleared my throat and both of them looked at me.

“I have to go.” I said.

***

.05 PATRIOT

Failed. It was their first failure in a mission, our intended target having escaped or captured by some unknown person or group without our knowledge, leaving no way for us to track them down. Micky and Yunho were in the de-briefing room, waiting to be scolded and for further instructions. I sighed as I looked at my best agents. They both looked up when I came in.

“I never thought that I would see the day for you both to fail in a mission.” I said, looking first at Yunho, then at Micky. “I’m disappointed in you both.”

They remained silent, both of them trying hard not to meet my eyes.

“This has never happened to both of you.” I scolded. “For you,” I looked at Micky. “To be sidetracked by your personal life in the middle of a mission and you,” I continued, looking at Yunho. “Getting distracted just because you met an old friend!” I shook my head. “Those things! Those distractions, are not supposed to be associated with your mission!”
“But,” Micky started to protest. I waved my hand and cut him off.
“No buts Micky.” I said. “You and I both know that Mel is an integral part of our plans, that’s why I assigned the mission to you and Yunho. But here you are, getting scolded like a couple of grade schoolers for failing at something that both of you know you can do!”
“I’m sorry, Mr. Kim, for what happened.” Yunho apologized. “What happened earlier, I think you understand. We weren’t expecting those kinds of things to happen. We were prepared for any kind of emergency situation during a mission, but we weren’t prepared for that.”
“You were trained to adapt to ANY kind of situation.” I said, emphasizing the word ‘any’. “You were faced with just that and you choke and lost the target.”

Again both of them were silent. I sighed, shook my head and looked at both of them, like a father would his mischievous sons.

“Both of you will not, under any circumstance, undergo or take part in any kind of mission, be it small or large scale. You will leave your guns and badges here at headquarters and will be put on mandatory leave for the next two weeks, starting today.” I said with finality. “Good evening to you both.” I said as I left.

***

I stood alone. There were trees and shrubberies scattered all around me and the wind blowing was cold and crisp. I hitched my scarf up over my chin and put my hand back in my coat pocket. In front of me lay a slab of rectangular black marble with silver engravings that curled in an artistic way. Being of his kin, I was his only visitor here in his final resting place, the other being my youngest brother Changmin. Assuming that Changmin visited at all.

I started to remember the past, as I stood there staring at my father’s gravestone. I miss him. Very much.

“Appa, what are you reading?” I asked as I looked at the thick books and folders that were piled high on my father’s desk. I was in his study again.
“I’m studying a case, Yunho-ah.” Appa answered, looking at me and smiling.

I came up to his desk, standing on my toes so that I could look at what appa was reading. Appa chuckled and picked me up and sat me on his lap. I didn’t understand any of what appa was reading or writing, but I was happy just to be able to spend time with him. He was my hero and I wanted to be just like him when I grow up.

”Appa, when I grow up, I wanna be just like you.” I said looking at him with a determined face. “I want to help people just like you.”

---

“Yunho-ah… Promise me,” omma said weakly as I held her hand. “Take care of your brother for me. Take care of Changmin.”
“Yes, omma.” I said. “I promise.”

Someone had grabbed my hand then, leading me away from my mother. I didn’t like how she looked. She looked very weak and very fragile. She was about to give birth to my brother. I was still looking at her when someone had picked me up because I was struggling to get back to my mother’s side. It was then that I realized that my father had picked me up. We were outside of the omma’s room.

“Appa,” I started to say. “What’s happening to omma? Why does she look like that?” I asked.
“Sshh…” Appa said, comforting me. “Everything will be alright, Yunho-ah. Don’t worry. I’m going to leave you here with nurse Han for a while so that I can help omma. Okay?” he said, hugging me then putting me down.
“Please take care of my son while I attend to my wife.” I heard appa say before he went inside the room where omma was.

I waited patiently until appa came back out. When he did, he looked at me. He couldn’t speak and his eyes were red. I walked towards him, looking at his face. He kneeled down and hugged me.

“Appa, are you okay?” I asked. “Why are you shaking?”
“Yunho-ah” Appa said shakily. “Your omma… Your omma is gone… She’s gone.”

---

“Appa, you shouldn’t say that.” I said, looking at the door to appa’s study where Changmin had been eavesdropping just a minute ago. I knew he had heard everything. “Omma died, but it’s not Changmin’s fault. You and I both know that, appa. Don’t blame Changmin for something that he didn’t even do.”
“I know, Yunho-ah.” Appa said, putting his glass of brandy away. “It’s just that every time I see your brother, I remember your omma. He looks so much like her.”
“Isn’t that reason enough to stop ignoring him and treat him like a father should his son?” I scolded. “Changmin is trying very hard to get you to notice him, appa. He loves you.”
“I don’t know, Yunho-ah.” Appa said, shaking his head slowly. “I see too much of your omma in Changmin. I just can’t bring myself to get over the fact that your omma is never going to come back, no matter how many times or how hard I wish for it to be so.”

---

“Yunho-oppa” the girl in front of me said, looking down at her feet, clutching at her skirt.

We were at the back of the school and class had just ended. I was already used to this kind of scene, having most of the girls in grade school and middle school confessing to me every week. I waited patiently for her to speak.

“I like you, Yunho-oppa.” The girl confessed, blushing scarlet. “Please go out with me.” She added.
“I’m sorry,” I said, smiling at her. “I already have a girlfriend.” I paused for a while to let that sink in. “Thank you, for telling me how you feel. I’m sure you’ll find someone that you will like more than me.” I said, delivering a classic line.
“Thank you, Yunho-oppa.” She said, bowing, smiling a little.

She looked like she was about to cry, but there was nothing I could do about it. She’ll get over it soon enough. I thought as I made my way to the school gates.

“You made another one cry, didn’t you” a boy leaning against the school gates said, smirking at me.
“As if I had a choice. What do you want me to do, accept her feelings? You know as well as I do that I already have a girlfriend, Donghae. I am not Changmin.” I said smacking his shoulder.
“Why not be like your younger brother, Yunho?” Donghae asked. I smacked him again.
“I may be a playboy, Donghae, but it’s against my principles to be dating two or three girls at the same time.” I said, frowning.

---

“Okay everyone, settle down.” The teacher instructed. “Heechul! Stop playing with that M16 before you hurt yourself!”
“Before we begin our practical exercises, I have someone to introduce to all of you.” the teacher said as the class settled down. He gestured at someone to come in, as we all turned our attention to the door.

The one who entered the room was not who we expected. Since all of us in this class were men, naturally we were expecting a male student to go through the door. She probably had shoulder-length dark brown hair which was neatly tied back in a ponytail, deep piercing brown eyes and a shy smile that made my heart skip a beat. We were all looking at her, some of my classmates even wolf-whistling at her arrival while the teacher was trying to keep the class quiet enough to introduce her.

The whistling wiped the smile off of her face as she turned towards the culprits and glared at them. The whole class was silent at once. The teacher didn’t seem to notice what she did and thought that he had finally called the attention of the class. He gestured to her.

“Class, this is Alma.” He said, as she inclined her head and smiled sweetly at everyone. “She had just transferred here and I want you all to welcome her. And remember that she’s a bit different than you guys so behave yourselves.” The teacher reminded all of us. “Go take your seat beside Yunho.”

I felt my stomach do a bunch of summersaults as she made her way towards me. I looked at her and started to notice every move she made. The graceful way she carried herself. The way her bangs covered her right eye. I forced my attention to the Smith & Wesson Magnum I was cleaning so that I won’t keep staring at her. I felt her take her seat beside me. I took a chance to look at her and smiled.

“Hi,” I said, starting the conversation as I was wondering how her voice will sound. “Name’s Yunho.” I held out my hand.
“Hello Yunho.” She said. I liked the sound of her voice and the way she said my name. “Alma, as you’ve already heard the teacher say.” She added as she took my hand and shook it.

I was a bit puzzled over the fluttering sensation I felt in the pit of my stomach as we shook hands. I’ve dated dozens of women, but I’ve never felt like this before. This… this is different. I was particularly interested in this girl.

***

[NC-17][Jaejoong/Yunho, Yoochun/Junsu, O.C]DON’T BLINK

.04 BLACKHAWK

“Appa, are you alright?” Yunho asked, putting a hand on his father’s back.
“I miss her, Yunho.” He said, his voice trembling. “I miss her so much.”
“Don’t cry, appa. I miss her too.” Yunho comforted. “Omma said that we should take care of each other. She wouldn’t like to see you like this.”

I watched through the tiny gap in the door as Yunho-hyung led appa to his armchair so he could sit down. Appa had mumbled something to Yunho after he sat down. Appa had his face in his hand and was crying silently. Yunho was busy getting something to drink from somewhere I couldn’t see. I could hear a tinkle of glass as ice was put in it. After a minute, Yunho came back with a glass with ice, filled with amber liquid. He handed it to appa, pulled a chair in front of where appa was seated and sat down. Appa drank from the glass, almost emptying it in one gulp. He sighed and put the glass down on the table beside him and looked at something. A portrait of a woman with long wavy hair, twinkling eyes and a warm, loving smile.

“It wasn’t her time.” Appa whispered. “It just wasn’t her time.” He had balled his hands into fists and was slightly trembling.
“Appa…” Yunho began but was cut off.
“If Changmin hadn’t been born, she wouldn’t have died.” Appa said bitterly, glaring at his clenched fists. “It’s his fault that your mother died.”

I woke up with a start. Sweat beaded my forehead and tears ran down my cheeks. I sat up and breathed in slowly. I had thought that the dreams would finally stop. I guess I was wrong. I placed my hands on my face and ran both of them through my hair. I got up, pulled a lose shirt over my head and went to the balcony. The cool breeze was soothing against my face, as a rush of memories came flooding back.

“Minnie, time to eat” Yunho-hyung called from downstairs.

I hurriedly came down the stairs to see if Appa was still there. I wanted to say goodbye to him and wish him good luck in work. When I reached the bottom of the stairs, I could just hear the sound of a car driving away. Appa’s car. I looked down and slowly made my way to the table, sat down and stared at the empty plate in front of me.

“Minnie-ah, don’t mind appa. He’s in a hurry today because they moved the court hearing to an earlier time.” Yunho-hyung said, ruffling my hair a bit.
“I wonder what the next excuse would be next time.” I snapped back, looking away. “He hates me. What I’m trying to do all these years is just pointless.”
“Don’t be like that, Minnie-ah.” Yunho-hyung said, taking the seat opposite mine. “Appa doesn’t hate you. He’s just busy with his case.” He added, placing eggs, sausages and toast on my plate.
“Yeah, yeah.” I said stabbing a sausage and putting it in my mouth. “Stop trying to delude me, hyung.” I said in between bites. “Technically, I AM smarter than you.”

---

I was in my room, on my bed with a book propped open on my lap. I wasn’t reading anymore but was looking out my window instead. Any minute now, I thought. And sure enough, there came a light rap on my door and my brother’s head popped in.

“Got a minute, Minnie?” Yunho asked as I turned to look at him.
“I know appa wants a word.” I said, swinging my legs over the side of the bed and getting up.

I followed hyung to appa’s study, where I found him not at his usual place behind his desk, but standing in front of it with a stern expression plastered on his face. Yunho went off to the side, leaving me alone to face our father. I stood there, waiting for him to speak first. I watched him, as he cleared his throat noisily and looked directly at me.

“Changmin,” he began. “I want to talk to you about your future.” Appa continued.

I remained silent, my suspicions finally confirmed.

“I want you to take up medicine in college.” Appa said with finality.

This wasn’t request. I thought sourly, biting back a frown. I knew this was coming. But who was he to tell me what to do when for the past eighteen years; he’s been trying so hard to convince himself that I don’t exist? I took a calming breath.

“I’ve already decided on something, but I do want to tell you even if you’ll just disregard it.” I said.
“What is it?” Appa said stiffly.
“Let’s just put it this way.” I said, slightly smiling. “Computers are becoming the trend now, and a lot of people are starting to make use of them as a tool in making their work a lot easier. With technology advancing every few months, who knows what will happen in a year?”

My father looked a bit puzzled by this and it made me a tiny bit happier. Yunho-hyung was trying not to laugh out loud. I looked at him for a second and saw him smiling and slightly shaking his head at me. I sighed.

“Let’s just say that technology isn’t going to go anywhere, anytime soon. Let’s leave it at that.” I said. “Good day, appa.”

I bowed, out of respect, and left his study.

---

“Changmin, look at these?” Appa gestured to the letters in his hand. I paid them no mind, knowing already what they said.
“I have more interesting things to occupy myself with, appa.” I just said.
“Why don’t you just try, Changmin?” Appa said, shaking his head at me. “These are all from the colleges that have the best medical programs in the country! I don’t understand why you won’t accept any of them.”

We were in his study again, him sitting behind his desk and me in front of it. I frowned. When is this old man gonna get it through his thick skull that I don’t want to be a doctor? I thought angrily. I tried to be subtle about it, but I guess he just won’t get it. I sighed. I had already planned for my college, thanks in part to my brother, who was paying for my tuition.

“What don’t you understand, appa?” I asked, exasperated. “Haven’t I given you enough hints already?”

We both remained silent for a couple of minutes. My father, opening and closing his mouth, trying to say something but coming up with nothing.

“If there’s nothing else, appa, I’ll be in my room.” I said as I went out of his study.

---

I was tapping my index finger on the enter key of my keyboard, waiting for the program to finish compiling so that I could test it if it works. The progress bar was barely reaching the fifty percent marker. I sighed. This is going to take a while, I guess. I thought, having worked on the source file for the whole day. I stretched and yawned and looked around my apartment.

I’d had to finally move out from my home to avoid more arguments with my difficult old timer of a father, and also to spare both me and my brother the frustration. Only Yunho-hyung knows where I am, and it’s going to stay that way. A cousin helped me out in my search for a new place. He had a spare room in the apartment he owned and agreed to let me stay. I was here ever since.

I entered college without any problems. Yunho-hyung insisted that he pay for my tuition saying that I pay him back later. Appa never bothered to reach out to me again. Not after I left home. Not even when Yunho-hyung was trying to get us back on good terms.

There was a knock on the door and I got up to see who it was.

“Changmin,” a female voice called from the other side of the door.
“Sazame,” I said, opening the door and seeing her radiant smile. I smiled back and let her in. “I wasn’t expecting anyone. Especially not this week when we have exams.”
“Can’t I at least have a break from studying and visit my boyfriend?” Sazame said, putting her arms around my neck, stood on her toes and kissed me.
“I wasn’t complaining.” I said after we kissed, looking at her. “You can definitely visit me.” I brushed a stray strand of hair away from her eyes.
“Project still not 100% perfect?” Sazame asked, as she sat down on my bed.
“Already compiling, Saz.” I said, sitting beside her. “It’ll take a while. You up for something to do while it does?” I asked.
“What do you have in mind?” Sazame asked back, swinging her legs like a child and looking at me with that playful expression I find so cute.

At that moment, we both heard my stomach grumble like an angry tiger asking for its meal. We looked at each other and burst out laughing.

“I guess we’re eating then?” Sazame asked, standing up and pulling me along with her.
“I guess we are.” I said, still chuckling. “My stomach might start a rebellion if we don’t.”

---

I swirled what’s left of the contents of my glass in front of me and sighed. Too bad Saz doesn’t like to drink. I thought sadly. She doesn’t want me to drink. I thought, frowning at my glass. I emptied it, put it on the bar and asked for a refill. We were seniors already and graduation was only a month away. Most of us were taking it easy. Good thing that Sazame was with her parents right now and I got a chance to sneak away from her watch so that I could have some time of my own.

“I’ll have what he’s having.” A voice beside me said to the bartender, just as my glass was set down in front of me.

I looked at her and did a double take. Is she from my school? I asked myself. I definitely have not seen her before. She had long wavy brown hair that fell all about her face and along her back in lose curls. Her eyes were a deep seductive chocolate brown. She wore a little strapless black dress that would make every woman in the bar squirm with jealousy. Then she looked at me and came closer. I was a bit taken a back; I was at a loss for words. We were so close we could almost kiss. I gulped noisily and tried but failed to look away.

“Changmin,” she said, finally leaning away. “You look like you’ve seen one hell of an angel.” She giggled as she drank from her glass.

I remained silent. I was thinking of where I have seen her before. I was pretty much sure that I haven’t seen her but her voice was somewhat familiar.

“I guess you don’t remember me.” She said, pouting a bit. She looked at me and arranged her expression. “Can I borrow a pen?” she asked.
“I’m sorry what?” I asked, bewildered.

“That’s the only thing you’ve ever said to me in Algebra.” She said. “Lexy.” She held out her hand, smiling.
“I guess you already know me.” I said, smiling and shaking her hand.

Just then, loud music started to play. I had to cover my ears a bit since we were near the speakers. I gestured to Lexy that both of us should find somewhere else to talk, but she couldn’t understand me.

“We should go to a quieter place.” I shouted over the music.
“Alright.” She yelled back and we both got up and left the bar.

We were walking along the streets, the neon lights of this part of town glowing brightly in the night. I had my hands in my pockets and Lexy was walking a little bit ahead of me. I still can’t believe she goes to the same school I do. I thought with a sigh. It was a cool night, but not cold enough for scarves and thick coats. I looked at Lexy’s walking figure and smiled to myself. The two of them are so different! Yet both of them have their own charms. I thought, amused.

Lexy turned towards me, walking backwards. She smiled in that seductive way of hers, turned to face the right way again and kept walking. I kept walking too, my mind going somewhere else. At that moment, my stomach grumbled, though only I could hear it. I chuckled to myself and started looking for a place to eat.

I noticed that Lexy seemed to be looking for something to. She suddenly stopped in front of a classy-looking building named Victoria Court. I stopped walking too, because I saw a familiar car parked near the building. I had my suspicions but I forced myself to look at Lexy.

“Can we stop here first?” Lexy asked, lifting her right leg up and rubbing her ankle. “My feet hurt from all that walking in these heels.”
“Okay.” I agreed as we went inside.
She walked ahead of me again and reached the reception first. She started talking with the woman behind the desk so I thought not to interfere. I was trying to look for a café or a restaurant when Lexy tapped me on the shoulder and held up a room key. She smiled that smile again, making me return that smile.

“What is that for?” I asked, feigning stupidity.
“Somewhere where we won’t be bothered.” Lexy answered sweetly, took my hand and led me towards the elevator.

We waited in front of the elevator in silence. She was still holding my hand and I found, that I didn’t mind it that much. What Saz doesn’t know, won’t hurt her. I thought selfishly.

“What about your girlfriend, Changmin?” Lexy suddenly asked.

And just as I’m thinking of her. I thought, looking at Lexy.

“She’s still my girlfriend. But she’s with her parents right now.” I answered.
“Oh.” Was the only thing she said, still smiling.

Just then the elevator doors opened and a couple came out. One of them looking very much like my brother. And her girlfriend, Alma. I stared at both of them as Yunho-hyung looked up and saw me too.

“Minnie-ah! What are you doing here?” Yunho asked, surprised.
“Hyung” I said, looking from him to Alma then at Lexy. “I’m with a friend. This is Lexy.” I introduced as the three of them shook hands.
“Minnie-ah, can I have a word?” Yunho asked, as I nodded, both of us leaving the two women to talk.

“Minnie-ah.” Yunho began. “If you have time, visit appa at home. He’s sick.” He said, looking at me sadly. “He needs you.” He added, when I remained silent. “Please.”

***

[NC-17][Jaejoong/Yunho, Yoochun/Junsu, O.C]DON’T BLINK

.03 MAG PUG

One down, one to go. I thought as I bid farewell to Tee, after telling her to go straight home. I had set up another date for us and this time I made sure that it won’t interfere with my work in any way. I turned back towards the mini-bar to get to my partner and from the corner of my eye, I saw someone come out of the women’s restroom. Mel. She was unconscious and was being carried out of the restaurant towards the fire exit by someone dressed all in black. I was at the end of the hall that led to the main exit to make out who it was that was taking our target away and the lighting of the restaurant was darker in that part of the restaurant. I made my way to the fire exit, trying to follow the would-be kidnapper.

“Yunho, where the hell are you!? And what the hell have you been doing!?” I hissed. “We’ve lost our target. I’m in pursuit right now!” I said as I pushed the doors open and saw nothing. They were gone.

***

“Damnit!” I swore as I heard what Micky just said.

Mel was gone. I was just inside the women’s restroom and she was not there. I double checked all the stalls and searched the bar. Even the arms were gone. I made my way back to the mini-bar while sweeping the whole restaurant more one time.

“Command, come in.” I said into my mic. “Sylver, I need you to check from the video footage if the target has already left.”
“Checking right now, Yunho. Thirty seconds.” Sylver’s voice crackled. “It appears she has.”
“What!?” I hissed. “What do you mean?” I asked. I heard his fingers darting on the keyboard.
“She was taken by someone else. Against her will.” Sylver answered his fingers still thrumming over the keyboard. “I’m trying to get an enhanced picture here, but it’s too corrupted. The feed is damaged enough as it is.”

I cursed under my breath. We’re in trouble. I walked out to the back of the restaurant to join Micky.

***

“I gotta say your hacking skills cannot be compared, Minnie.” I said, as I sat down behind my desk. “Good thing you inserted that virus into the restaurant’s security system.”
“Hey, I told you to stop calling me that!” Changmin said, his hands already flying across the keyboard. “I don’t leave any traces, Jaejoong.” He smirked.
“Find all those footages of the drug deal will you?” I said, leaning back on my chair. “Mr. Kim always asks for those every time we finish an assignment.”
“Already on it.” Changmin answered. “I just have to burn them on a disc.”

After a couple of minutes, I heard Changmin’s footsteps as he walked towards the door. I turned my head towards him and smirked.

“Don’t think I’d forget.” I said, a wicked smile playing on my lips. “We still have a date. In. The. Dojo.”

Changmin stopped and glared at me but said nothing. Then he went out of our office. I smiled contently to myself. I looked at Changmin’s desk beside mine. It was the only thing that he didn’t want me to touch. His precious computer. I thought with a frown. I heard the door open and looked up to see him back.

“That was fast.” I said, propping my feet on the desk. “Load those videos will you? I want to watch them.” I ordered.

Changmin arched an eyebrow at me but did what he was told. He started doing his thing on his computer and projected the video footages on the three by five virtual screen. He hit a key and the videos started playing all at once.

I was expecting the scene at the restaurant from earlier, but what I saw made me straighten up from my seat like a rigid board. My eyes widened as I realized what I was looking at.

“WHAT THE HELL!?” I yelled, shocked.
“Shit!” Changmin hissed at the same time. “You weren’t supposed to see any of those.”

I was looking at seven different porn videos. The horror. Changmin was already hurriedly closing the video screens until only a couple were left.

“Too late, idiot.” I said, smacking his shoulder. “You and your crazy weird obsessions.”
“Hey!” Changmin retorted, punching my shoulder back. “I am not crazy, nor am I weird. I’m not obsessed either.”

I rolled my eyes. Yeah, right. Not obsessed. Huh. I thought as I looked at the last two video screens. One particular video caught my attention.

“Don’t close that last one.” I said, putting my hand on Changmin’s arm.
“Whatever.” He answered shrugging. “But I gotta replace the disc I brought over to Mr. Kim.”

Changmin got up again and walked towards the door. His hand was on the doorknob when he stopped and turned to me.

“Watch.” He said. “Do. Not. Touch. Anything.” He added before he went out the door.

That video was completely unrelated to our mission but I immediately recognized the woman in it. She was coming out of her apartment, dressed casually, her shoulder-length hair braided loosely at the base of her neck. She locked the door of her apartment and then walked towards her red Mini Cooper, got in and drove away.

“Why do you have this video Minnie?” I asked as soon as Changmin had closed the door.
“A little background check.” Changmin said. “What does it have to do with you?” he asked, sitting on his chair, closing the video screen.
“I know her.” I said, remembering the conversation I had with Yunho. “Why were you spying on her anyway?” I asked, curious.
“My brother.” Changmin said, still doing his thing on his computer. “He’s kind of a playboy.” He added.
“Like you’re not?” I said, poking him. “And? So you go behind your brother’s back and snoop around?”
“No.” Changmin said, pausing at what he was doing to glare at me. “I just felt that this was different.” He mused.
“Different how?” I asked. Yes, Alma was certainly different from all the other women that Yunho had dated, I thought.
“I don’t know.” Changmin said, pausing. “I couldn’t put my finger on it. She made hyung a much better man I guess.” He said, shrugging.
“I guess you’re right about that.” I said my mind still on my little reunion with Yunho. “So, what’s your brother doing now?” I asked.

Changmin was about to answer my question when we both heard something hard bang against the wall. We looked at each other. I shook my head and stood up.

“The princess must finally be awake.” I said as I gestured Changmin to come with me.

We went to the next room to find Mel on her feet, with one shoe in her hand, poised to throw it at the door. Her other shoe lay by the door, its heel broken because of its impact against the wall. She looked at us when we came in, slowly lowering her raised arm.

“Who are you?” She shrieked looking from me to Changmin. “Why am I here?”

“Relax Mel.” I said, holding up my hands. “We’re not going to hurt you. We actually have something ask from you. A request.” I added.

Mel seemed to get some sense back into her when she heard what I said. She had already lowered her hand and discarded her shoe.

“It depends on what kind of request that is.” Mel said folding her arms across her chest. “What do you guys have in mind?” she asked looking first at Changmin, then at me.
“Everything will be explained. When the time is right.” I said, pulling up a chair and taking a seat. I gestured for her to take a seat as well.
“But before I agree to this request of yours,” Mel bargained. “I have a few conditions of my own.” She smiled.
“You, my dear, are not entitled to any conditions, as you are in our territory.” I answered, looking at her as she narrowed her eyes. “But, if you may state those conditions of yours, I might” I paused. “Make an exception.” I smiled. She frowned at me and crossed her legs.
“Whatever your request may be,” she began. “I have to be fully compensated for it. My own house. My own car. And of course, money.”
“That can be arranged.” I answered. “But, you must live with Changmin.” I added, smiling and looking at both Mel’s and Changmin’s shocked faces.

Mel looked like she was going to be frozen for centuries. I bit back a laugh as I looked at Changmin who wore the same expression. Mel blinked several times and then narrowed her eyes at me again. She pondered what I had just said for several minutes. It was silent for a full five minutes before she spoke.

“If I were to agree with this,” Mel said. “What would you have me do?”

***

.02 DOUBLE EAGLE

“Keep an eye on her will you? It’s both our asses if we don’t bring her over to our side.” I murmured into my hidden mic.
“Got it. But hurry up with your soap opera or people are gonna think there’s a filming crew here.” Yunho’s voice crackled in my earpiece.
“Yeah, yeah. Shut up and go wait for her.” I grumbled back. Rub it in why don’t you.

“WHY ARE YOU HERE WITH ANOTHER WOMAN?” She demanded glaring at me. Tears glistened in her eyes, threatening to spill but she kept them where they are.

I hate making or seeing women cry, especially her. I held up my hands in front of me as a gesture of peace. I smiled apologetically, looking directly into her eyes, which softened a bit. Good, she’s willing to listen, I thought with relief.

“Tee, honey. Relax. There is an explanation for this.” I began to explain.

As much as I didn’t care at being looked at by everyone in the restaurant, I didn’t want my argument heard as well. I bowed to everyone, apologizing for the scene and trying to avoid making another as I took tee’s hand and led her into a corner of the restaurant. I faced her again. Her mouth was a thin line and she had her arms folded across her chest. I took her hands into mine and kissed both of them. I looked into her eyes again, held her gaze and smiled her favorite smile.

“Okay, I really didn’t remember that we had a date tonight. I set up a meeting with my client so that I can smooth things over and persuade them to agree with our deal. I didn’t know that the person I was meeting was a woman at all, but that’s not an excuse.” I paused. “She’s the CEO’s niece and the Vice President for operations in the company. It was up to me to convince her so that her uncle would agree to the deal. What you saw a while ago was her finally agreeing to talk to her uncle into agreeing with the deal. The kiss was a form of gratitude and I shook her hand. Right now, she’s talking to her uncle and making the necessary preparations for the deal to go through tomorrow.” I said, explaining in detail. Tee remained silent but I knew she was thinking over my words.

“Forgive me?” I asked, but she still remained silent. I tried again. “I swear I won’t break my promise again.”
“Do you? Really?” Tee asked, a bit skeptical.
“Tee, you know me.” I said, tucking her hair behind her ear. “I never break my promises. I really just forgot this time because I was busy with work.” I said, placing my hand on her cheek.
“Never. Do. That. To. Me. Again.” Tee said, saying each word carefully, the dam preventing her tears from falling finally breaking.
“I promise. I won’t.” I said, wiping away her tears with my fingers. I leaned in and kissed her.

***

I looked around the room, scanning it quickly. Still the same. A few scattered arms. Her useless watchers no doubt. I thought, as I looked at the corner where Micky and his girlfriend stood talking. I was playing both bartender and lookout for this operation and it hasn’t gone according to plan. This is the reason why I don’t attach myself to someone. I shook my head and sighed. I’d better keep an eye on our target before anything else happens.

I put on my coat and made my way towards the restrooms, paying attention to everything around me. I turned my attention to the women’s restroom to see if Mel had come out yet. I looked down for a bit to button my coat and that’s when I bumped into someone.

“Sorry.” I said, inclining my head at the person.
“Yunho?” a familiar voice asked. I recognized that voice from five years ago. “Is that you Yunho?” he asked again.
“Yah, Jaejoong-hyung!” I said surprised to see him for the first time in since military school. “What a coincidence! It’s been what, five years?” I was about to hug him, but he just held out his hand. It felt awkward as I looked at him more closely, took his outstretched hand and shook it briefly.

He looked different. Different from the Jaejoong I was with in military school. Different from the Jaejoong that was stick-thin, brusque and always wore his poker face wherever he went that made him look older than he really is. I was the only one he ever talked to, besides our superiors. He was too serious. Too focused.

“Yunho-yah!” Jaejoong exclaimed, smiling widely at his dongsaeng. “Has it been just five years? It feels like more. You’ve changed a lot! You’re thinner and taller!” he said, playfully punching my shoulder.
“And what about you, hyung? You certainly don’t look like the poker-faced sunbae I had in military school.” I said, returning his smile. “You look more like a prince that came out of a fairytale book!” I said jokingly. He frowned at me and after a few seconds we were laughing. Just like old times.
“Are you still treating women the same way, Yunho? Still counting on how many you can get until you find the one?” Jaejoong asked. “Your last girlfriend’s name was Alma, right?”
“Alma… I remember her.” I answered. I did remember her. She was the one that I loved the most. “And no. I don’t count women anymore. I don’t have time for dates…” my voice trailed off. Because I’m working all the time. I finished in my mind.
“A changed man, are you?” Jaejoong joked. “It’s not like you, Yunho. What really happened with Alma?” He chuckled.
“Ah… I don’t know myself, hyung. I’m still clueless.” I paused for a while. “I loved her, you know.” I said the sadness obvious in my voice.
“I know.” Jaejoong said, putting his hand on my shoulder. “You were so happy then.”
“So what do you do now? Ever since we both went out of the military?” I said, changing the subject.
“I got into a consulting firm.” Jaejoong answered. “I was just at our dinner meeting. What about you?”
“I’m a project manager in an IT company.” I answered automatically. “We’re working on a big project right now.” I added for effect.

I didn’t want to let him know what I really do for a living. Like any other mission, we all had our cover stories. We were given a different one with each new mission we were assigned. I brought my head back into the task at hand and stole a glance at the women’s restroom to see if Mel had already come out. She hasn’t and I was planning to go in there myself to get her. Women! They always take too long in the bathroom! Good thing Jaejoong-hyung was looking at his watch while I was checking.

“Listen, Yunho I gotta go. I have to go pick up my cousin in fifteen minutes.” Jaejoong said. Good. I need to get to Mel before somebody else does.
“Oh, ok. I was about to take my leave as well, hyung.” I said. “Maybe we can meet again sometime?” I asked.
“Sure.” Jaejoong said as we swapped mobile phones and gave each other our numbers. Then we parted ways.

***

It was a surprise to meet Yunho again after all those years. I thought, a bit happy with our short reunion. I sighed. Back to work.

“Minnie, are we good to go?” I said into no one in particular, but knowing fully well that he could hear me like I was speaking right next to him.
“Stop calling me that!” Changmin’s annoyed voice crackled into my earpiece. “Good to go. Took you long enough! Had a nice little reunion while I was hard at work keeping her inside the ladies room letting her phone go haywire on her? She almost broke the mirror with the damn thing.”
“Sorry, Minnie. Old friend. Long Story… Besides you were pretty occupied yourself. Checking out the ladies again, weren’t you?” I said and let that one sink in. After a few seconds, “Ready when you are.” I said as I shook my hair out a bit and removed my jacket and folded it in my arm.
“I’ll keep an eye out for you, Jae.” Changmin said.

I went into the women’s restroom without any problems. Luckily no one else was there except for her. I made my way towards her while I took something from a hidden pocket.

“Lucky you look so pretty you could pass for a woman! It makes our job a lot easier.” Changmin crackled in my ear.

I let that one pass. But he’s going to regret it when I get back to HQ. Right now, we need to get Mel. By all means necessary.

She wasn’t facing the mirror when I was walking up to her. She was busy rummaging in her bag something so she didn’t see me coming. I placed a small black square patch on the back of her neck. The small thing contains enough electricity to stun an elephant, but the one I’m using was programmed to stun humans only. Enough to put anyone out for six hours. More than enough time for us to transport her to HQ.

“What the…”

Those were the only words that she was able to say before she lost consciousness and fell into my waiting arms. I carried her, ‘princess style’, out of the restroom. I already had her bag with me. We were able to leave the restaurant without any trouble.

“Target acquired. Mission complete.” I said.
“Good work, Jae. Your car’s coming around the corner.” Changmin crackled in my ear.
“Thanks. See you at HQ. I got something to settle with you.” I answered, smirking. “In the dojo.” I added.

***

.01 DIAMONDBACK

I went into the restaurant and took a quick look around the area. All pretty normal people. Except for a few arms scattered here and there, I thought to myself. I walked towards the mini-bar and nodded at the bartender. He smirked and nodded back as he turned his back on me. I put my hands in my pockets, as my partner’s voice crackled in my left ear.

“You ready Micky?” he asked, knowing what answer I would give.
“I always am, Yunho-hyung. Now stop being the voice in my head so I can get to work.” I replied, spotting our target and making my way towards her.

She was alone at the moment and looked like she was bored. I looked at her carefully, but I still couldn’t believe that she, of all people, could be one of the country’s most notorious drug dealers. She had quite an angelic face and could’ve probably taken anything and everything that she wanted just by looking pure and innocent. I slowly approached her, breathing in and out slowly so I could do my ‘lines’ just right.

“You look like you’re bored as hell.” I said casually. Unlike some people, I’m way too used doing this than being a lookout. I thought, as I pictured hyung doing what I was doing now. I smiled at her.

She looked at me and I knew that she was starting to fall. I inclined my head slightly, still keeping my smile.

“Is anyone here with you?” I asked.
“No,” She said smiling. “Come, sit with me.” Gesturing to the empty seat right beside her. I took her invitation and sat down.

I signaled to a waiter passing by. He came to our table at once.

“What would you like for this evening sir?” asked the waiter.
“I’d like to have a glass of your best red wine.” I said to the waiter then turned my attention back to her. “What about you? What would you like to drink?” I asked her.
“Orange Juice would be fine.” She answered. “I may have had too much to drink already.” She giggled a bit. “I might need to sober down a bit.” She said.
“Would that be a glass of Miranda Country and a glass of orange juice?” the waiter verified.
“Yes, please.” I said.

As the waiter walked towards the mini-bar with our orders, I looked at her again.

“Where are my manners?” I said. “My name’s Micky.” I smiled as I notice her face flush pink.
“Mel,” she said. “It’s nice to meet you, Micky.”
“So, how come you’re all alone?” I asked, knowing full well that she had just closed a deal with her current client.
“I was with some friends of mine earlier but they had to go somewhere else and I was supposed to meet this guy, but he cancelled our date.” Mel replied, frowning a bit. “So I just stayed here. Now here you are, with me.” She said, looking directly into my eyes.

She is quite the lady. I thought, amused.
[Error: Irreparable invalid markup ('<i.>') in entry. I started talking about some random stuff and she was quick to respond. In just a few moments, we were both laughing.

“So what do you do for a living, Micky?” Mel asked, crossing her legs.
“Believe it or not,” I began. “I’m just your normal car salesman.” I said, looking to see what her reaction might be.
“No way!” she said, shock and incredulity flickering on her face. “You don’t look like a salesman to me, Micky.” She was laughing.
“But, seriously. I am…” I answered, sighing and looking bullied. I crossed my arms and looked away for effect.

“Nicely done, Micky.” Crackled Yunho’s voice in my earpiece.
“Shut up! I’m working here!” I grumbled under my breath. I almost forgot that he was hearing everything. And seeing it too.

“I’m sorry, were you saying something?” Mel asked, a little puzzled. I softened my expression as I turned to look at her. This was too easy, I thought, hiding a smirk.
“No, none at all.” I said. I tried to look sad and forlorn. Seeing the sudden concern on her face, I knew I was almost at the finish line. I smiled weakly at her.
“I’m sorry.” Mel said, putting her hand on my arm. “It was just… I just couldn’t believe what you just said. Really. I am sorry if I offended you.” she explained.
“That’s alright.” I said, smiling at her. She flushed pink again. I smiled more widely, took her hand in mine and gently squeezed it.

“Incoming at three o’clock, Micky. Better be prepared for a good excuse.” Yunho’s voice said.

I stole a quick glance to my right. My eyes widened but I bit back the curse that was about to come out of my mouth. Shit! Why the hell is she here when I’m working!!! I thought angrily. I gotta think of a good excuse or I’m dead. I thought, panicking a bit. Not only will I be dead, but I’ll be off the case as well. Damn!

Only a couple of seconds passed after Yunho’s warning. Just then, I heard something vibrating. I looked down at Mel and saw her taking out her mobile phone, looking at its small screen and frowning at the name of the caller. She quickly hid her sudden annoyance and looked at me.

“Micky, I need to take this call. I’ll be just a moment.” She said sweetly, pecked my cheek lightly, got up and walked towards the women’s restroom.

Great timing. I thought with relief. I needed a reason to get rid of her and she gets a sudden phone call. I guess it’s just my luck. I thought, as I turned my attention to the woman that was quickly making her way towards me with a murderous expression. I hope my luck holds out. I thought as I tried to brace myself what’s coming.

I saw it coming and I let it come. She slapped me. And I deserved it. I know why she’s here and I remember that I had promised her a special night. Tonight. I didn’t care that people were staring at us. I wanted to clear it up with her, using an excuse that I’ve totally made out just seconds before I got hit by her hand. She doesn’t know anything, nor should she.

“Fix this, Micky. We still got a job to do.” Yunho’s voice crackled again.
“I know. I got this. Just keep an eye on her would you?” I mumbled as silently as I could.
“Copy that.” He replied. “Oh, and good luck.” He added. I could just see him smirking.

***</lj-cut>

Everyone has them. And everyone tries to hide them. But no one can ever take those secrets to their graves. All secrets will always be revealed. Sooner or later.

Prologue

“Hyung, I’ll be working an extra shift today, so don’t wait up for me.” I said into my mobile phone. “The chief wants our project to push through earlier than scheduled so we’re gonna have to double our pace.” I added.
“Okay, but don’t overwork yourself, Minnie. And I won’t be able to come home early today either… I have an appointment that I must attend to.” Yunho replied. “Remember to eat on time, ok?” he added.
“I’ll remember hyung.” I replied. “Bye.”

I slid my mobile phone shut and put it inside my pocket. Typical Yunho-hyung. Always being the concerned one. I thought. Well, time to get to work.

I walked back to my where I was before I got my brother’s call. I stood in front of a three by five virtual screen and looked at all eight video feeds that I was monitoring for the past month. I smiled to myself as I saw him on the center video feed. I touched that video feed to make it larger. He was inside his hotel suite, in the bathroom, looking at his reflection on the full length mirror. He just finished adjusting his tie. He is such a narcissist! I thought wryly.

Finally he went out of the bathroom and towards the door. Seeing him grabbing his wallet, car keys and his weapon of choice for the night: a small silver colt. He hid the gun in a specially designed pocket inside his coat and rechecked to see if he’s got everything he needs. I took my seat and propped my feet up on my desk as he took the room key out of its slot on the door and went out of the room.

I reached out and touched another video feed to replace the one that I was watching before. This particular hidden camera was virtually undetectable to any untrained eye, namely everyone except me, its creator. I had secretly placed the cam on his shirt collar, perfectly camouflaged as part of the intricate embroidery design of the shirt. He doesn’t know that I’m watching. I smiled again. I leaned back, getting ready to watch every detail. It’s show time.

***

I was looking at the full length mirror I had especially requested in the bathroom, re-adjusting my tie. When I was satisfied, I went out of the bathroom and got everything that I would need. Wallet, car keys… oh and my assistant for the night. Just in case something doesn’t go right. I put the small silver colt inside the special pocket of my coat and double-checked everything again. I sighed. I was both anxious and excited.

Anxious to meet him again after a week of waiting.

Excited because I get to see his smiling face and get to hear his caressing voice.

I get to be together with him again. I get to have him all to myself. I thought happily, as I walked down to my black McLaren P11, got in and drove to our meeting place.

I arrived at our meeting place with ten minutes to spare, but I went straight to the concierge and gave his name. I noticed that the woman was looking at me like I was some sort of prince charming. I was already used to that kind of reaction, and frankly, I’m tired of it. The woman was practically trying very hard to make the conversation longer and stuttered so much when she was trying to give me the information that I needed. I stopped myself from scowling and instead smiled politely, took the room key card, thanked her and went on my way. I saw her face flush just as I turned my back on her. Women...They’re all the same. I thought bitterly.

I took the elevator up to his suite. I swiped the key card on the door’s sensor. I opened the door and let myself in. The room was dark except for a couple of spotlights that were lit around the whole room. I took a long breath and smelled his cologne. I let my eyes adjust to the darkness and walked towards the full length glass windows where I marveled at the spectacular view of the city below.

“You’re here.” He whispered in my ear.

I nearly jumped out of my skin, had he not wrapped his arms around my waist. I didn’t hear him come near me. I sighed contently. I felt at home, as I stared at both our reflections on the window. I smiled at him as he smiled in return.

“I missed you.” I said, as I turned to face him, kissing him passionately, deeply.

***

I saw his reflection on the windows. Both of their reflections. I had just gotten back from refilling my cup with black tea but it now lay, shattered to pieces at my feet. I couldn’t believe what I just saw. I didn’t know what to feel, let alone what to say. When I thought I could at least get a bit of my voice back, I took my mobile phone out and hit the speed dial.

“Mr. Kim, it’s me. We have a breach.” I said weakly into the phone, almost whispering.

***
